Adif has put out to bid three construction contracts for the high-speed rail line that will connect the three Basque capitals—known as the Basque ‘Y’—which together total 266 million euros.
This refers to the section between Mondragón and Vergara, in the Zumelegi area, as well as the route that passes through Elorrio and the one connecting that town with Bergara.
Companies interested in securing these contracts have until April 28 to submit their bids to Adif, according to the announcement by the public entity published in the Official State Gazette (BOE).
The development of high-speed rail projects was the driving force behind public works last year, along with the uptick in road maintenance and construction projects.
The bidding process for AVE contracts accounted for one-fifth (21%) of the total public works projects undertaken by government agencies in 2014, amounting to 2,829 million euros, nearly double (+90.8%) the figure for 2013.
