The Campos Neutrais complex, the largest wind power generator in all of Latin America, will be located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and will consist of three wind farms, one of which—the Geribatu wind farm—has already begun operations.
The Campos Neutrais complex will be capable of producing energy for some 3.7 million residents and creating approximately 8,000 to 9,000 jobs, with a total installed capacity of 583 MW.
The three wind farms that make up the complex are: Geribatu, which began operations in February of this year, and Chuí and Hermenegildo, which are currently under construction. Geribatu has an installed capacity of 258 MW, ensuring the supply of this renewable energy to approximately 1.6 million residents, when it is operating at maximum capacity.
Geribatu, which is the largest of the three parks, received an investment of 1 billion reais, which is equivalent to about $347 million. It has a total of 129 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2 MW, spread across an area of 4,750 hectares.
A total of [number] are being installed at the Chuí wind farm 72 wind turbines, which will supply electricity to some 900,000 residents, with a capacity of 144 MW. In Hermenegildo, there will be 101 wind turbines, which will supply 1 million residents, with an installed capacity of 181 MW. Both will require an investment of more than 730 million dollars.
