In the field of architecture, there are also trompe-l'oeil designs. These buildings certainly don't go unnoticed among architects and lovers of <a href=\"https:\/\/academy.structuralia.com\/masters\/master-bim-edificacion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">construction industry<\/a> in general.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Below, we'll explain what it is, where it comes from, and some of the best examples you can visit in Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFQue_es_un_trampantojo_%E2%80%98Enganar_al_ojo\"><\/span><strong>What is a trompe-l'\u0153il? \u2018To trick the eye\u2019<\/strong> <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A <strong>trompe-l'\u0153il<\/strong>, by definition, is \u201c<em>a kind of illusion you use to deceive someone else by making them see something that isn't there<\/em>.\u201d Trompe-l'\u0153il is popular in the world of gastronomy, since there are chefs and pastry chefs who design dishes that look like one thing but are actually something else. The same thing happens in architecture!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the field of architecture and construction, it is defined as a kind of <strong>mural painting <\/strong>created for<strong> to simulate relief or a type of faux architecture<\/strong>. If done right, it can fool the human eye\u2014that's the whole point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Trampantojo_en_la_arquitectura_y_edificacion\"><\/span><strong>Trompe-l'\u0153il in Architecture and Construction<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trompe-l'\u0153il has been used for centuries in architecture and construction. Sometimes it is used as a decorative element on flat facades or in empty spaces, and other times because it was more economical to paint an illusion than to build the actual element.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, trompe-l'\u0153il is considered an architectural technique in its own right, on par with other aesthetic devices that transform the perception of a building. Its effect may be reminiscent of the play on perspective that we also find in certain <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.structuralia.com\/en\/tipos-de-fachadas\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/blog.structuralia.com\/tipos-de-fachadas\">Types of Facades<\/a>, where the design and composition define the building's character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Origen_del_trampantojo\"><\/span><strong>The Origin of Trompe-l'\u0153il<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The trompe-l'\u0153il term \u00ab<strong>an optical illusion<\/strong>\u00bbcomes from French\"<em> \u201ctrompe-l\u2019\u0153il\u201d<\/em>. Of course, in France we find examples of trompe-l'\u0153il paintings created by the artist himself<strong> artist Patrick Commecy,<\/strong> through murals on buildings. But we also find trompe-l'\u0153il paintings in Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ejemplos_de_trampantojos_en_el_mundo_de_la_arquitectura\"><\/span><strong>Examples of trompe-l'\u0153il in architecture<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are some examples of trompe-l'\u0153il art that you can find right here in Spain\u2014closer than you might think!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"1_Palacio_de_la_Madraza_Granada\"><\/span><strong>1. <\/strong>Madraza Palace (Granada):<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the best examples of <strong>architectural trompe-l'\u0153il <\/strong>Whatever we find in Spain, we see it in Granada. Specifically, in the <strong>Madraza Palace,<\/strong> which houses various departments of the University of Granada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can see it for yourself in the image below\u2014no tricks or gimmicks\u2014and judge for yourself. What do you notice? However, they aren't! Actually<strong> It's a drawing<\/strong>. The artist fools people both in photos and in person, because many people come up every day to touch it with their hands to verify that the surface is indeed smooth and there are no bricks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is one of the finest examples of architectural trompe-l'\u0153il found in Spain, and its preservation and current condition are outstanding\u2014but it is not the only one.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Escena_de_la_calle_Montera_en_el_siglo_XIX%C2%BB_de_Alberto_Pirrongeli_Madrid\"><\/span><strong>2. <\/strong>\u00bbScene on Montera Street in the 19th Century\" by Alberto Pirrongeli (Madrid)&nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another of the most intriguing trompe-l'\u0153il paintings can be found in the capital, Madrid. Specifically, it is Alberto Pirrongeli\u2019s \u00abScene on Montera Street in the 19th Century,\u00bb and you can see it at <strong>22-30 C. de la Montera, Downtown<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although it looks like an original building, it is not actually a structure of that type; rather, it is a<strong> painting<\/strong>. Many people often walk down the street without noticing it\u2014only if you touch it.
