Adif has awarded a contract, for a maximum amount of 2,420,000 euros (including VAT), for maintenance and possible repair work on bridges—both stone and concrete—on the Conventional Rail Network and the Metric Gauge Network (RAM).
Under the terms of this contract, which will have a duration of 24 months, subsequent orders will be placed as needed, based on the requirements that may arise at any given time, any potential issues, or the results of load tests.
The contract, which has been awarded to the company Tecyr Construcciones y Reparaciones, includes a wide range of operations, generally aimed at restoring a specific element to its original condition. These actions are usually the result of monitoring, inspection, or load testing of the structure, and any potential defects must be corrected immediately.
The work to be performed includes repairing cracks, covering exposed reinforcing bars, repointing the masonry, replacing imposts, upgrading support structures, erecting ballast retaining walls, refurbishing the walkways, replacing beams, and reinforcing structures.
The contract covers all concrete and masonry bridges on both the Conventional Rail Network and the Metric-Gauge Rail Network, encompassing a wide range of structural types and construction materials.
Thus, depending on the years in which they were built, we find bridges constructed entirely of concrete, masonry, or ashlar, as well as bridges that combine various materials. These bridges serve both single-track and double-track lines and range in length from 3 meters to more than 200 meters.
The characteristics of materials also vary greatly depending on their type and age. Their durability also varies depending on both the type of material and the climate.
Adif manages more than 11,400 km of conventional rail network (Iberian gauge of 1,668 mm) and more than 1,200 km of metric-gauge network (1,000 mm), which will benefit from this contract to ensure they are maintained in optimal operating condition.
