In light of the crisis that society has faced due to the pandemic, USRacing has had to tackle various challenges. The company has undergone a digital transformation, and meetings have been held online—from the team’s executive board meetings to those of the various departments and general meetings, which can bring together more than 70 people who make up the team.
In March 2020, the project was in the design phase, but there were key components of the motorcycle that, out of necessity, had already begun to be developed. For example, the battery—which, because it was designed with the circular economy in mind, requires a huge investment of time in testing reused cells. The members of the electronics department made this possible by working from home. The development phase began in September 2020. Adherence to safety measures sometimes meant that only two people could work in the workshop at a time, which affected the production timeline for the motorcycle’s parts. However, the workshop has remained operational at all times.
In short, USRacing can proudly say that it has successfully navigated this new situation thanks to the hard work of its members and their ability to adapt. The project:
USRacing is a project in which energy, creativity, ambition, and a desire to learn come together through young students from every possible field of study.
Based at the Higher Technical School of Engineering in Seville, USRacing is dedicated to building a motorcycle from scratch that will compete against teams from around the world in the Motostudent category.
The motorcycle creation process consists of two stages: design and manufacturing. The design process begins by calculating the limits of each part and the maximum potential that can be achieved with them. Next, professional software is used to design the first prototype of each part, and simulations are conducted to verify that they meet the physical and dynamic requirements. Finally, the part is refined to create the best possible version. Meanwhile, during the exciting manufacturing phase, we strive to use cutting-edge, environmentally friendly materials and techniques, while seeking to apply the circular economy to all our processes.
USRacing consists of six departments: Structural, E-Powertrain, Fluid Dynamics, Sponsors, Communications, and Events, which, thanks to a well-established management team, are able to work together effectively.
The team has more than 10 years of experience under its belt, years during which the passing down of knowledge from one generation to the next has been essential to its progress.
The idea:
In 2009, 10 young engineering students were informed that the new Motostudent competition for college students was about to begin. These intrigued motorsports enthusiasts decided to take on the challenge. It would allow them to satisfy their desire to apply all the knowledge they were acquiring at engineering school. Once the team was formed, they got to work, sought out and found sponsors, and laid the foundation for what is now one of the longest-standing teams in the competition and one of the most renowned among Spanish teams.

Among the achievements in this discipline, the following stand out in chronological order starting in 2009:
- Top 5 in the overall standings (20 teams participating in the 2009–2010 season)
- Top 3 in Calculation and Design (21 participating teams in the 2011–2012 season)
- Top 3 in the technical engineering project (32 participating teams in the 2013–2014 season)
- Top 5 Industrialization Project (36 teams participating in the 2015–2016 season)
- Top 3 in the braking test and Top 5 in the time trial (47 teams participated in the 2017–2018 season)
- In addition to its achievements in competition, the team has earned recognition outside of it, including the Young Engineer Award from the Official Association of Industrial Engineers of Western Andalusia in 2019.
Objectives:
The exciting goal ahead for this team is to build an electric motorcycle for the 2021 racing season that is directly grounded in the values of the circular economy, thereby setting an example for other teams across all disciplines—not just Motostudent. The ultimate goal is to reduce the environmental footprint caused by the world of motorsports.
To that end, the company aims to develop a winning motorcycle powered by a battery made from recycled old batteries.
A key goal for this team in the coming seasons is to continue expanding its roster while never losing sight of these values, which can serve as a model for the rest of the world.
