At this year’s Milan Expo, the various countries must address the proposed theme: «Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.» From an architectural perspective, there are two ways to participate: building a pavilion or designing an interior space.
We may encounter very different proposals depending on each participating country, since each one takes a different approach based on its culture, customs, and how it addresses the proposed topic.
Here are some of the most interesting pavilions you'll find at this year's Expo
«The Kindness of Belgium»
He has decided to focus on the environmental sustainability and in the technology for the construction of its pavilion. Inside, visitors can find interesting attractions such as La Granja, El Sótano, and El Atrium, where they can relax, have a drink, or see how solutions are being sought for the proposed issue: world hunger.
«The Love of Chile»
Its design is intended to showcase the country's geographic diversity, seeking to depict its deserts, mountains, rivers, coastlines, and transverse valleys, all within one of 2,000 square meters. The architect in charge was Cristián Undurraga.
«Food for Thought,» United Arab Emirates
Focusing its pavilion on land, energy, water, and food. The design is full of curves and slopes, intended to give the impression of being in a very warm place surrounded by dunes.
«Naturally Sustainable,» Colombia
Colombia is concerned about three global issues: hunger, poverty, and climate change, and has sought to reflect this in its pavilion, which measures approximately 1,900 square meters. The pavilion features distinct areas representing Colombia's various climates.
«The Fields of Ideas,» Germany
Its design is meant to evoke the rural landscapes of Germany. The phrase «The Fields of Ideas» is represented by plants that sprout like ideas.
«Nature's Challenge,» Kuwait
Its structure is reminiscent of the ships from this country used in the Persian Gulf. The topics it covers are: the shortage of drinking water in certain parts of the world, agriculture and energy.
«Toward a Sustainable Ecosystem Food System,« Malaysia
The shape of the pavilion is meant to resemble that of 4 Giant Jungle Seeds, reflecting versatility and dynamism. It has an area of approximately 2,050 square meters.
«Water and the Lotus Flower,» Vietnam
The pavilion is shaped like a lotus flower; it is intended to highlight the The Importance of Water for Life and also highlight issues such as pollution, waste, and overexploitation.
