The Querétaro Aqueduct, which stands nearly 30 meters tall, is located in the city of Santiago de Querétaro, Mexico, and is one of the city's landmarks.
The aqueduct has 74 arches, spread out across a 1,280 meters long and the The highest point is more than 28 m above the ground. This is one of the the tallest aqueducts in all of Mexico.
The aqueduct consists of volcanic rock masonry.
Construction of this aqueduct began in 1726 and was completed nine years later, in 1735. The Querétaro Aqueduct eventually supplied water at a rate of a flow rate of 26 liters per second.
The aqueduct was built to address health problems caused by contaminated water, since the drinking water system was underdeveloped. The Marquis of Villa del Villar del Águila designed the aqueduct and provided much of the capital needed to make it a reality.
Legend has it that the aqueduct was built as a result of a love story between the Marquis of Villa del Villar del Águila and one of the nuns who lived in a convent supplied with water by this aqueduct.
