El Dorado Airport in Bogotá, Colombia, has been recognized as the best airport in all of South America—for the first time in its history—at the 2016 World Airport Awards, which were held in Germany.
El Dorado is Colombia's main airport; it is located about 15 kilometers from the center of the Colombian capital, Bogotá. It has two terminals and two runways for takeoffs and landings.
Construction of the airport began in 1955, and it opened four years later. Its full name is: El Dorado Luis Carlos Galán Sarmiento International Airport.
