It was recently announced that plans are underway to build the world’s tallest solar tower in the desert metropolis of Dubai, which already has 200 MW of photovoltaic capacity at the Mohammed bin Al Maktoum Park, where this new «skyscraper» will be located.
The plant, which began operations in 2013, is now planning two new expansion phases that include the construction of a concentrated solar power (CSP) tower of 260 meters high, which would make it the tallest in the world.
The project, whose estimated budget would exceed 3.2 billion euros, calls for the installation of up to 5,000 MW of photovoltaic capacity with which they hope to reduce harmful atmospheric emissions by 6.5 million metric tons per year.
As indicated in the press release, we will still have to wait to see this ambitious project come to fruition, since construction is set to begin in the year 2020. So, we'll just have to wait for further news.
