This bridge connects the city of Qingdao with Huangdao Island, on opposite sides of Jiaozhou Bay in China, and is the longest bridge over the sea in the world, with a length of 42.5 kilometers. Thanks to the bridge’s construction, the distance between the two points was reduced by 30 kilometers.
The bridge, which has a 6-lane highway, 3 in each direction, and which is supported by 5,200 pillars, It was built to improve traffic flow in the city of Qingdao and was designed to handle 30,000 vehicles per day.
The following materials were used in its construction: 450,000 metric tons of steel, 2.3 million cubic meters of concrete and was designed to withstand earthquakes measuring up to 8 on the Richter scale, typhoons and even withstand the impact of a 300,000-metric-ton ship.
Construction of this bridge over Jiaozhou Bay began in 2007 and lasted four years, during which the following participated: more than 1,000 workers. The bridge was inaugurated on June 30, 2011. It was designed by the engineering team at Shandong Gaosu Group.
