This port, located in the city of Santos in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, is the country's main port and the largest in Latin America, as well as the largest port on the east coast of South America.
The port covers an area of 7.8 square kilometers One of its strengths is the wide range of transportation options connecting the port to the outside world. It has a road network, two rail lines, access via waterways, and even air connections, with airports located within a radius of less than 150 kilometers.
It was inaugurated in February 1892 and is located 70 kilometers from Brazil's largest city, São Paulo. Currently, no other port in South America surpasses this port in terms of logistics activity, boasting 55 maritime terminals and a few 10 kilometers of docks which are used for both commercial and industrial activities as well as for tourism-related activities.
Currently, approximately 110 million metric tons are handled annually, and last year more than 3 million TEUs were processed, representing approximately 25% of Brazil’s foreign trade. The cargo transported consists mainly of sugar, soybeans, corn, fertilizers, and vehicles, and it is a a very important factor for the export of Brazilian oil.
