The La Chira Wastewater Treatment Plant will treat wastewater from the 25% area of the city of Lima, approximately. The water will be returned to the sea once it is clean, which will greatly improve water quality and significantly reduce pollution.
The project includes the construction of a a massive underwater outfall more than 3.5 kilometers long and a an inner diameter of 2.61 meters. Its construction required the use of 4 backhoe loaders, a tugboat, and a front-end loader.
Thanks to the construction of this wastewater treatment plant, we will be able to restore beaches that were polluted. In addition, the project includes the restoration of the area through the planting of grass, trees, and various types of plants.
The Spanish company Acciona is responsible for designing, building, financing, maintaining, and operating this facility for a period of 25 years.
