The largest contract, awarded for 23,856,436 euros, involves upgrading 27 kilometers of the conventional Bobadilla-Granada line to high-speed standards, which will connect to the new-track sections that have already been completed or are under construction.
Track Renovation on the Bobadilla-Granada Line
With regard to the track renewal on the Bobadilla-Granada line, the section of the line covered by this project runs entirely through the province of Granada, specifically through the municipalities of Loja, Huétor-Tájar, Villanueva de Mesía, and Íllora. This section, located between kilometer markers 59/560 and 86/520 of the line, will be connected to the sections of the new track bed—either already completed or under construction—on the Antequera-Granada high-speed line.
The project includes all the platform and track work necessary for the implementation of a mixed-gauge electrified line by adding a third rail to the existing alignment, which will allow for the operation of both high-speed and conventional services. In addition, the thirteen existing level crossings on this section of the conventional line will be eliminated.
Plans also call for the renovation of the San Francisco de Loja station to bring it up to high-speed standards, as well as the construction of a pedestrian underpass in the surrounding area.
