Last week, the annual Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranking was released, listing the world’s best universities in each academic discipline. The rankings show a dramatic improvement in the standing of Spanish universities compared to previous years, with 22 of them now ranked among the top 50 in their respective disciplines.
Specifically, Spanish universities appear a total of 313 times across the 48 specialties covered by the QS rankings, having been included in these 91 cases of a rise in position compared to the same ranking in 2017. Martin Juno, one of the authors of the ranking, praises the “significant improvements”at Spanish universities, particularly in the fields of Science, Technology, Mathematics, and Engineering. According to Juno, this is due to improved conditions for high-level research, as well as greater quality and impact, and an increase in international collaboration.
