This building, currently under construction on Roosevelt Island in New York, United States, will become the tallest passive building on the planet, standing 83 meters tall. Energy consumption will be reduced by more than 60% compared to a building of the same height.

A passive building is one designed to Environmental conditioning through natural processes by using the sun, the wind, the building’s orientation, and the inherent characteristics of the building materials to minimize energy consumption. This type of building aims to avoid the use of artificial heating or cooling systems as much as possible, thereby creating structures that are much more environmentally friendly and healthier for their occupants and for the city’s residents.

The following will also be installed solar panels and a geothermal system, capable of generating energy from the earth's heat, and a dual-flow mechanical ventilation system, which ensures good air quality by extracting stale air from the damp areas of the building and ensuring that fresh air enters the dry areas.

This building will house one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, as well as a campus, all spread out over a an area of 900,000 square meters, with a capacity to accommodate more than 500 students, faculty, and campus staff.
The first phase is expected to be completed in 2017, but the project will not be fully completed until 2043. The project has a a budget cap of 105 million euros.
